MCELROY’S
AUTOMOTIVE INSIGHT July 9-B, 2003 Xenon LIGHTS DON’T BLIND Some drivers complain about being blinded by Xenon headlamps. But the research says they’re wrong. With Automotive Insight, I’m John McElroy. There are a number of luxury cars that are offered with what they call Xenon headlamps. That stands for high intensity discharge. You can spot them a mile away because they look blue. A number of drivers have complained to the government that these lights are blinding them. But according to Paul Thompson, a lighting expert at GM, the research show these lights are less blinding than regular headlamps. The same thing happened when halogen headlamps first came out. People complained, but as they got used to them, the complaints went away. And in Europe, where Xenon lamps first came out the same thing happened. So it seems people are just noticing something that’s different, rather than it really causing a problem. With Automotive Insight, I’m John McElroy, WWJ Newsradio 950.
